Task 3 – Portraits
Below are the 3 brainstoming steps I took to get to my final idea.
I have decided to do portatiture as my chosen specialism.
I want to do fun and exciting portraits, nothing dull and plan, nothing simple. I love black and white photos but the main lot of my images will be colour. I have decided that I want to create something a little different. I am going to create images using models and sweets. Candy on the face will be the name of portfolio. As well as the candy ones there will be simple images following the same tone but toned down.
Below are a couple of images that I found when putting candy face in google.

I love this image its just a random one that I found on google but the bold contrast between the pale skin against the colour lips is very effective. With very subtle lighting and a close up shop it gives off a great atmosphe. The focal point is of course the lips they draw u staight in followed by the intensity of the eyes. The face is is totally in focus but hand is just out of focus referring back to the depth of field.

In this photo all you can see is the lips, thats the focal point of the image. Clear image, the focus being on the sweet in the mouth. This goes along with my sweet idea and though my idea is more full on , with the sweets being all over i plan on having a few images lie that within my collection.
Joesph Cartwright is a photographer that looks at fashion and beauty and within his beauty work there are images which include sweets. Though my ideas are a bit more over the top and include lots more sweets he was a good photographer to look at to get my ideas rolling and was a good starting point. His images could be found as a editorial in a magazine has there clean and would work well for advertising as well certain products.

This photo is very close up with everything except the background in focus, though this is the normal way a portrait is normally done i plan on having some of my backgrounds in focus to keep my images busy. Portraits can tell a story, they evoke passion, her eyes are just above the sweets as if shes giving them away, she is telling a story. The light is coming from the lest hand side and also there from above the right eye. This is highlighting sections and getting rid of shawdows. It has quick exposure time same as the others below.
2.
I like the angle of this image and the intensity of the colours. The lines of the image draw your to her eyes, the angle from the mouth to the eyes, the shape of her face creates an era of mystery. The angle of the camera, in which the image has been taken is just above her eye height. Light from both left and right side to create a glow on cheeks.

Joseph Cartwright tends to fill the whole frame with the subject which can sometimes work, but normally a portratit can be taken from the center with space around or 2 thirds over. I plan todo a number of different frames and angles to create a collection of images. This photo takes up the whole frame but still the eyes are drawn to the sweet in the mouth which makes the image work as there is a clear focal point. Soft lighting is to keep natural and simple. I plan to have quite bright lighting and by using filters to keep my images fun and exciting.
Elizabeth Huff
I have added her collection to show more lip photos to show how ideas can evolve into something else and even bigger. every image has a different theme lighting isint a big problem as the images are so in focus and so close up.
All these images create an image and a thought in the head. How did they do that? Interesting?. which means you look deeper into the image. Her images are adverts all ready are are called lipgloss adverts. They are for a brand of lip-gloss to show the effects that you lips can give off with the right colour.
Each image is different but follows the idea of lips but all the images have different angles. The way i believe she done this was by takeing a facial shot then cropping the lips during later stages.

Before I take my real images I Planned out what i would do. Firstly i looked at previous portrait images and looked at framing and placing.

This image is of my dog, The clear and smooth imagery of the dog and the out of focus background shows a good portrait.

I used photoshop on this image to whiten the background and heighten the tone of the face. To highlight the face and the background.
plan
Below are a the images that I took. This are many and are not the finale 5 though the finale five are in amongst these.
I took both black and white and colour images. Firstly are a few of the black and white images i took including the contact sheet.

This is the contact sheet of my black and white images, below are few i picked out to show them more clearly

For this image I stuck chocolate buttons onto the face, the contrast is clear with good black and white differences. The buttons add a shape on the face creating smooth and subtle lines. You can see a pattern within the image its self. You can see where the lighting hits the right hand side of the face. there is even a good depth of field.

This is image has a mixture of sweets, 100 thousands, love hearts and black swirls. The image is a tad scary with the crazy eyes. clear symmetry.

when I do black and white images i don’t use light i use mirrors which in a sense is a light source. I like how clear the reflection is and the clear contrast. The image tells a story which is what i said portraits are suppose to do.

4. Hairbo Sweets are on the face, many different images with different angles being taken to show all sides of the face.

Below are my photos that are in colour some are similar to the black and white images.

I took a few images before the sweetie ones of plan faces to show a more rounded collection. There are a few images. I used materials i had around to create more exciting images. I also used mirrors as it gives a good effect.

I enhanced the colour and the contrast to make the photo more bold.
I enhanced the colour and the contrast to make the photo more bold.

Below are some of The haribo images, I stuck colour filters over my camera lens to experiment with differnt colours.

Below are two images that i used for cropping purposes, firstly is the One sweet in the mouth photos and cropped images.

I dont like the actual image but when i cropped it and went on from there i really like the outcome.
Before photoshop.

For the lip image I had a high exposure and low saturation. I highlighted the lip space around it. It creates a mystical vibe

I sectioned the image of and decreased the amount of shawdows and lowed the contrast of the lips.
NEXT IMAGE OF SWEETS IN THE MOUTH.

Before photoshop

For this image I boost the colour intensity to heighten the power that the lips gives off.

I used the colour balance toggle in photoshop to brighton the colours and to put everything in one colour in different shades.
When i was in the process of choosing my 5 images i decided to photoshop one of them in different ways to see if i like more in different ways.
The original image.

Photoshop image…..

I added a green toner to the photo, smoothed the edges out and added a few more shawdows to get a good effect.

I added a the glow effect that photoshop has to offer and then downed the saturation to the lowest it can be without losing any detail.

I kept this one black and white as I like black and white images. Plus I sharpened all the edges and smoothed the middle lines, plus added shadows and highlighted the mirror space.
BELOW ARE MY FIVE CHOSEN IMAGES.

I expermented for a while with this image to get the shawdowing correct as it kept being to over powerful and then the light was not bright enough and when i just got the lighting right it didn’t work worth the mirror. Eventually I found the best type of light source was a small torch just above and a shiny piece of paper to deflect the natural light form the sun onto her face. Subtle lighting creates an edge to this image, the make-up looking super-hero ish… lighting gives a good vs bad situation.
I decided to have the head sidewards and to have her looking away from the camera as it creates a deeper and more emotion evoking image. I wanted one half of her as a full on facial was harder on the lighting and was not very flattering.
The contrast of this image is clear but i did up the contrast level on photoshop and made the bottom of the image darker.
A few weakness in the image are the smudging on the mirror which now seeing i would change maybe even add a clear gloss to create a even shinier background.

This is one of my black and white images, which i took myself and developed myself. This image is clear and has a good contrast, I put alot into this image. That including the amount of items surrounding the image.
I used a tiny torch under the face which reflected on the shiny material on the right hand side. This shows the right hand side of the face is lighter than the left hand. The position of the face is slitty raised, but the eyes are still not looking at the camera. There is a good depth of field, face in contrast and clear and background blurry and not in focus.
All the lines draw towards the face as its the center of the image. Weakness of this image is the fact that there is no shapes or symmetry in the image, A good point is no blur on the face which is due to a quick shutterspead.

I think this image is very scary, Its very bold and just screams at your. The face is dead in the center of the image. The closing of the eyes makes you ask allot of questions. You ask your self, Why arent they open? Whats wrong with them? How different would the image look with the eyes open would it tell a different story would it change the context of which the image is in. I did take images with the eyes open and i can assure you the image doesn’t look as good or as strong. With the eyes closed the image is more stark and vibrant.
The bold create a goo colours d contrast and juxsterpoisting. The image pops of the page. It brings you in and keeps you there. Along with the crazy hair flowing outwards like a crazy banche. The red tomato face adds to the image keeping you in that uncomfortable feeling.
Straight symmetry through the midddle of the image. The random scattered 100 thousands just add to make this image as bold as possible.
Some negatives of the image still no clear shapes are visible.

To show where the context of where my images could be found i created a magazine cover for a beauty magazine. Using one of my five finale images to be the cover picture. This is because The image is of the face and it has beauty aspects. There could also be adverts for sweets or beauty products as they are bold and have a good effect.
